About CFOI Our Founder
Glenn Clark (1882-1956), the founder of CFO, was a professor of English and a highly successful college athletic coach. While on the Island Farthest Out in the Atlantic Ocean off the eastern coast of the United States, he had a dream of groups of people meeting together over a period of time to experience the wholeness of the spiritual life through learning how to practice the presence of God in every area of their lives.
Dr. Clark layman, eminent author, professor, philosopher, Christian man of prayer and faith believed men and women could become Athletes of the Spirit. By that he meant that to live in the Kingdom of God, here and now, we must enter into training as does a physical athlete. It seemed to him that farthest out was symbolic of going all the way in seeking God and the laws of His Kingdom. Thus, our name, Camps Farthest Out.
Glenn authored over 50 books and leaflets on the spiritual life. Many of these are now available on our literature page.
